H Ice Cream Genius (Deluxe Edition 3-CD + Blu-Ray Mediabook - Released in 1997, Ice Cream Genius is Steve Hogarth's first solo album outside Marillion, deliberately built to sound nothing like his day job, favouring minimal arrangements, spoken-word passages and unfiltered lyrics that explore identity and isolation with striking directness. Hogarth handpicked a band from what he's called "the last people on earth anyone might have expected me to work with," drawing musicians from Blondie, XTC, Japan and Eurythmics, including XTC's Dave Gregory and Japan's Richard Barbieri. Recording began at the Racket Club, with vocals added at Chris Rea's Sol Mill Studios and the album mixed at Van Morrison's Wool Hall Studios, completed in July 1996 during a break in Marillion's Made Again tour. Even its title has a specific origin: producer Craig Leon would exclaim "I scream genius!" in the studio whenever a take particularly landed, a phrase Hogarth later reshaped into the album's name. Never a commercial breakthrough on release, the record has since grown into a genuine cult favourite among Marillion's fanbase and beyond. Released to mark Hogarth's 70th birthday, this 3CD+Blu-ray Mediabook is the most expansive presentation of Ice Cream Genius ever assembled, drawing together more than 11 hours of material, the vast majority previously unreleased. Alongside the remastered studio album and two full live shows, the set includes new reflections from Hogarth himself on the ideas, emotions and circumstances behind the record, tracing its evolution from earliest sketches through to the finished album. The set is presented inside a Mediabook with new artwork, rare photography and memorabilia. Recommended)TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATIONCD 1 - Ice Cream Genius1. The Evening Shadows2. Really Like3.
